Free Events for the Fourth of July

July 4th is right around the corner, here is a list of events to celebrate Independence Day in 2018 throughout Delaware. 

New Castle County


In Hockessin, you can catch a neighborhood relay race, a parade, an all day festival featuring food trucks and a beer garden, as well as fireworks in the evening.

When: July 4th, 2018

  • Relay Race starts at 8:30 am
  • The festival starts at 2 pm and runs until 9 pm
  • The parade starts 3 pm
  • The fireworks will be set off at dusk


  • The relay race is at the Hockessin Library at The Piedmont Fields 1023 Valley Rd, Hockessin, DE 19707
  • The festival can be located in the gravel triangle behind the Hockessin Fire Department (intersection of Old Lancaster Pike and Millcreek Rd at 1225 Old Lancaster Pike)
  • The parade is routed through the Old Lancaster Pike
  • Firework viewing areas include Swift Park, Piedmont Baseball Fields, Hockessin Library and Artesian Soccer Fields


Silver Lake hosts fireworks at dusk.

When: Visitors may enter the park at 6 pm and fireworks will start at dusk on July 4th, 2018

Where: 200 E Cochran St, Middletown, DE 19709-1496



Newark is hosting a festival with great food, entertainment including fun booths and live music, as well as a fireworks and pyrotechnic show.

When: July 4, 2018. Catch the festival from 6 pm – 10 pm.

Where: 605 S College Ave, Newark, DE 19716 at The University of Delaware Athletic Complex

July 4 at the Wilmington Riverfront 2

Wilmington Riverfront

Visit the Riverfront to celebrate the Fourth with a stunning fireworks display along with food vendors and the Delaware Symphony Orchestra.

When: July 4th, 2018

  • Riverfront Activities will be held throughout the day
  • Food vendors and music will start at 6 pm
  • Fireworks at dusk

Where: Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park, 40 Rosa Parks Drive Wilmington, Delaware 19801


Kent County

A firework goesDover

Dover has plenty of activities that you and your family can enjoy this fourth of July, including an historic scavenger hunt, the national bell ringing ceremony, food and craft vendors, free children’s activities, a Fourth of July parade, a dance band, and fireworks.

When: July 4th, 2018

  • The scavenger hunt is from 9 am- 6 pm
  • The Bell ringing ceremony is at 2 pm
  • Craft vendors run from 4 pm- 10 pm
  • Kids activities are from 5 pm to 9 pm, and the fireworks start at dusk


  • Activities are downtown on The Green located around 121 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard North



If you are looking for a great parade a fun baby contest, and great fireworks, then visit Smyrna-Clayton for a fun time for the whole family.


July 4th


  • Baby contest is at JMB School 20 W Frazier St, Smyrna, DE 19977
  • The parade will be on Commerce Street
  • The fireworks can be viewed at The Smyrna-Clayton Little League Park

Sussex County

Bethany Beach

Join Bethany Beach for a parade, a contest to see if you are smarter than a fifth grader with Ben Franklin, and a fireworks show.

When: July 4th, 2018

  • Parade at 12 pm
  • The contest starts at 2:30 pm
  • Fireworks at dusk


  • The parade steps off at Pennsylvania Ave and Garfield Parkway.
  • The contest is at the Grandstand on the Boardwalk, Bethany Beach, DE 19930

Dewey Beach

Stop by Dewey Beach for a great fireworks show.

When: July 4th at 9:15 pm

Where: On the beach by McKinley Street at Hayden Road Dewey Beach, DE 19971


In Laurel you can hear live music, enter your little one in a Little Miss Independent Pageant, watch a parade, and view a great fireworks show.

When: July 4th, 2018

  • Prayer Breakfast at 8 am
  • Music starts at 5 pm
  • The pageant begins 6 pm
  • The parade starts at 7 pm
  • Fireworks start around 9:25 pm


  • Market Square Park Bandstand, in Laurel DE


In Lewes you can have a fun time with the whole family at the Old Fashioned Fourth of July Festival, where kids can try their hands at old fashioned games.

When: July 4th, 2018, 9 am to 6 pm

Where: Second Street Lewes DE

The Slaughter Beach Sail Club is holding its 10th Annual Regatta at Slaughter Beach on July 4th.

When: July 4th, 2018 12 pm 

Where:  North Delaware Avenue, Slaughter Beach, DE
