Free Holiday Events in Delaware

Delaware’s small towns and big cities alike welcome the holiday season with beautiful illuminating holiday lights lining main streets, store fronts, and homes. This December, experience even more of the season with family, friends, and neighbors at events throughout Delaware. 


New Castle County  


Spirit of Christmas Celebration

Visit for historic house tours, musical performances, shopping, tree lightings, and caroling.   

When: Saturday, December 9, 9:30-5:30

Where: 25 E 2nd Street New Castle DE


Tree Lighting Celebration at Glasgow Park

Join us as we come together as we celebrate the holidays with a festive Tree Lighting Celebration. There will be music, refreshments and Santa’s Workshop with activities and more.  Don’t forget to bring your camera to take a picture with Santa! 

When: Friday, December 8, 5-9 p.m, Tree lighting at 7 p.m.

Where: Glasgow Park Bank Barn, US Route 40 and DE Route 896, Bear Delaware


Car Menorah Parade Through the Streets of Wilmington

 Join the Parade of light as Menorah Mobiles will travel North Wilmington escorted by police cars and a fire truck! Some car Menorahs will be available for use. Even if you do not have a car Menorah, you are invited to come and join the procession as we bring the Festival of Light to the streets of North Wilmington.

Celebrate Kwanzaa at the Y

 Learn more about the creation of Kwanzaa, the early years, and its development into a holiday that is observed by millions. Also, learn of the “traditional” celebratory procedures that occur in the home and community (village). And, let us not forget about Kwanzaa songs! 

When: December 16, 2017 at 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Buena Vista Holiday Open House 

Delaware’s historic Buena Vista mansion will be decked out for a one-day-only holiday open-house.  The event will feature self-guided tours of the home, decorated for the holidays, plus crafts and other activities for children and adults, refreshments and a book drive hosted by the University of Delaware Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Lunch With Santa & Holiday Marketplace

Come bring the kids out to enjoy “Lunch With Santa” and enjoy shopping our Holiday Gift Marketplace! Come see Santa in his house, and please feel free to bring your camera and take pictures.  There will be our holiday gift market, food trucks, holiday games, activities and entertainment. 

When: from 11 a.m- 3 p.m. Saturday, December 9, Saturday, December 16, Saturday, December 23

Delaware Youth Chorale

Join the Dover Public Library for a performance featuring the Delaware Youth Chorale Group! All ages are welcome to this great family event! No registration required.

Cider Fest at Fifer Orchards

Free Hot Apple Cider, free Farm Tours on Tractor and Wagon, free Marshmallows by the Bonfire Christmas Trees, Wreaths and Festive Decor Apple Cider Doughnuts, caramel apples, gift items Country Store with fresh fruits and veggies, apple cider and unique locally made items. A festive shopping experience for the whole family.
Santa and Mrs. Claus visit the farm from 12:00-2:00.

Georgetown Christmas Parade

Help welcome in the Christmas season in Georgetown with decorated floats, marching bands, classic cars, fire engines, and of course, the arrival of Santa Clause! 

When: Thursday, December 7 2017 at 7:00pm

Where: West Pine Street, Georgetown, DE 


Milford Santa House

He will be in his house listening to the dreams and wishes of children. Children age 12 and under who visit will receive a picture with Santa, a candy cane, a stocking filled with candy and a chance to win one of our weekly drawings of a Downtown Milford gift certificate.

When: every Friday evening 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 3:00 until December 23rd.

Santa House on Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk

Stop by and tell Santa your Christmas wish list!  There is no charge to visit Santa; donations are appreciated. Remember to bring your camera!
