What to Know Before Buying Coverage 

2018 open enrollment runs from November 1, 2017 to December 15, 2017.


In order to enroll in health care you must meet the following requirements:

  • Live in the United States
  • Be a U.S. citizen or national (or are lawfully present)
  • Not currently incarcerated
  • Not offered affordable health insurance by your employer

If You Choose Not to Enroll

There is a penalty for those who choose not to enroll in any form of health insurance. To find out how much your penalty could be check out Choose Health DE. More than 8 out of 10 Delawareans enrolled received help paying for their insurance on the Marketplace. If you are unsure of how you and your family can afford insurance know that financial assistance may be able to help.

Benefits of Health Insurance

  • People with preexisting conditions can get coverage
  • Adult children can stay on their parents’ coverage until they turn 26
  • No dollar limits on lifetime benefits
  • Hospitalization, doctor visits, prescriptions, dental care and more are covered.

What’s Covered

Under DE insurance the following is covered:

  • Outpatient care
  • Emergency services
  • Hospital services
  • Maternity and newborn care
  • Prescription drugs and laboratory services
  • Preventative services such as shots and screenings
  • Help with chronic diseases like diabetes
  • Pediatric services, including oral and vision care
  • Mental health and substance abuse services
  • Services and devices to help people with injuries, disabilities or chronic conditions
